Cape Verde Sal - July 2014

In July last year we had two blissful weeks on the beautiful island of Sal - Cape Verde.  With its mixture of African and Portuguese influences it was a very interesting place to photograph.  Although much of the holiday was spent lazing in the shade, and reading I managed to fit in some photography of course.  I even did some painting!!

The beaches were unreal, the most beautiful I have ever seen

The Island of Sal is so tiny that we were driven around it in half a day!!
The off roading was a lot of fun!

Fascinating to see how the local people live and to talk to them

We actually got to swim in these stunning salt lakes, it was a strange experience floating in the salt water

Going to the gym - the Cape Verde way

I'm always a sucker for an interesting tree

One of the biggest source of local trade is the one fishing jetty on the island, where fresh fish is caught, prepared and sold

This is one of my favourite photos from the holiday, I remember the fun the boy was having in the waves

The largest fish we saw - Tuna

A very spooky Jesus statue under the sea

Coming in to the jetty on the boat

African art at the hotel

Some pretty formidable waves in parts of the island

I've never had such a relaxing break, as the Cape Verde locals say 'no stress'

Devon in a VW Campervan April 2014

I cannot believe I didn't update my photography blog in 2014, especially when I had so many interesting things to photograph! More places than people last year but I had some fantastic adventures...so here's the start of my catch up blogs:

First off our chilly, wet camper adventure in Devon for Jamie's 30th! We had so much fun, neither of us are experienced campers (at all) but even the going to the loo in the middle of the night with a torch in my wellies was all part of the experience.  Cooking, sleeping, playing games and watching breaking bad in the back of the camper, and driving down the narrowest of roads hoping no one came the other way, so many great memories, we just didn't want to give her back at the end!

Here's a few of my favourite photographs from the trip

Pretty much experienced every kind of weather imaginable on this trip...

Our baby for the weekend

Beautiful beach in Paignton (it was much colder than it looks!!)

The best afternoon tea I've ever had! yum!

Lovely little fishing village called Brixham

Driving to Dartmoor

The Haytor Rocks, Dartmoor

Stunning countryside and moody clouds

I would definatley hire a VW camper again and do some more exploring, and couldn't ask for more beautiful places to photograph

Remember Remember the 5th of November...

Surprisingly I've never photographed fireworks before!

At book club we decided to attempt some sparkler writing and I was gobsmacked at how well it came out.  I wanted to take some firework photos too but unfortunately the day we planned to go was really wet, so will have to wait till next year now, or new year!
